Godly Play

Godly Play has been developed by Jerome Berryman, during 40 years of work with children in the USA. This method of ‘presenting scripture stories to children’ is based upon his own understanding of the Montessori approach to education. Berryman regards himself as ‘fourth generation’ Montessori, following in the tradition of E.M. Standing and Sofia Cavalletti.

Godly Play is a method of ‘showing’ Bible stories. It encourages ‘playing’ with the language of God. It is designed to help listeners to ‘enter the language to be more fully in God’s presence’ [‘The Complete Guide to Godly Play’ Volume 1 page 9].
